⏱️ Egg boiling methods
Soft, jammy, or hard — timed for the temperature water actually boils
Sea-level charts treat “boil for 10 minutes” as a method. It is not. Water at elevation is cooler when it boils, so the same clock time leaves the white set and the yolk behind. These pages are the three doneness settings on the boiling eggs at altitude calculator — not a generic “how long to boil eggs” article, and not a city-by-city list.
Pick the yolk you want, enter your altitude (or detect it), and cook to the timer. Then chill.
Immediately put cooked eggs in cold water to make them easy to peel. Ice water for a few minutes also stops them from cooking further in the shell, which matters more after the extra time altitude already added.
Soft-boiled eggs
Set whites and a runny yolk. Timing is tight, and altitude stretches it.

Why the same method takes longer up here
Egg white starts setting around 62°C (144°F) and finishes near 80°C (176°F). Yolk proteins start later and need more heat for a firm center. At sea level the pot is 100°C (212°F). In Denver it is closer to 95°C (203°F). That gap is small on a thermometer and large on a clock, especially for a fully set yolk.
The calculator adds about 3% time for every degree the boiling point sits below 100°C, then layers egg size, fridge vs room-temp start, hot vs cold water, and how many eggs are in the pot. Use the science page if you want the physics; use a method page if you want the pan-side routine.
After they come out of the pot
Jammy eggs go to ramen eggs. Hard-boiled eggs go to deviled eggs or egg salad. Soft-boiled eggs are usually eaten as-is. The recipes index lists those three — not a cookbook.
